Catherine Chappell took fifth overall in the heptathlon at the NCAA D-III Track and Field national championships, earning her a second All-American honor.

The senior from Lemont, Ill. racked-up a 4893-point total, which is 350 points higher than her qualifying score, is a new school record. Christina Acquaviva of SUNY-Cortland, a two-time All American in the heptathlon, won the event with 5189 points; Amy Reed, of Messiah College is second with 5142 total points; and Jillian Crandall of UW-River Falls is third with 4989 points.

Going into day two of the competition, Chappell was in fourth place with three events remaining. In the long jump, Chappell jumped 16'11.5" (5.17m) placing fourth in the event. On her third and last attempt in the Javelin, Chappell's throw traveled 130'10" (39.89m) for second place in the event and breaking the MSOE all-time mark. In the seventh and last event of the heptathlon, Chappell ran a personal best 2:43.41, good enough to place her fifth overall among the 18 competitors.

Chappell becomes the first MSOE athlete to achieve All-American status in multiple sports: women's basketball and track. She joined the university's six other All-Americans in March, when the 5-8 forward and the school's all-time leader in rebounds (890) and points (1790 points) was chosen by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to the Kodak All-American Honorable Mention team.
